About Chemical Peels
Offering the best in chemical peel facial treatments, Yonick Plastic Surgery provides patients with options for a medical-grade facial treatment with chemical solutions (such as glycolic, salicylic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids) that give you healthier, smoother skin. At our Midland, MI office, Dr. David Yonick and his team offer chemical peel treatments that help to remove skin abnormalities like fine lines, wrinkles, scars, rough patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels eliminate dead, damaged skin cells by using a specific peel on your skin, which causes the oldest layer to peel off. As your skin heals and begins to rejuvenate and repair itself, you may notice a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive procedure to make your skin radiant and may be appropriate for the neck and face.
Variations of Chemical Peels
At our Midland, MI office, we perform chemical peels in a few levels of strength (light, medium, and deep) to meet our patients' skincare concerns and goals.
Light peels: You can have a light chemical peel during your lunch time and return back to your day. This level of peel will remove the top skin layer (the epidermis), giving your face a brighter appearance and softer texture. We typically suggest that you receive a light chemical peel about once a month for the best glowing results.
Medium-depth peels: This level of chemical peel reaches deeper into your skin, and you'll usually prefer to do this strength of facial rejuvenation treatment over a long weekend. You may also need to prepare yourself for more discomfort during and up to an hour after peel. Medium-depth peels are designed for patients who have significant damage to their skin including deeper wrinkles and darker pigmentation issues.
Deep peels: The most advanced of the three types of chemical peels is the deep chemical peel, and it will require the lengthiest recovery time. This is an aggressive procedure that can leave your face peeling, itchy, and swollen for 2 – 3 weeks. Patients who get a deep peel will have dark age spots, sun-damaged skin, prominent acne scars, and deep-seated scars. As this level of peel is usually uncomfortable for most patients, we can provide you with local anesthesia before your peel.
Getting the recommendations of a cosmetic professional is the first step in the journey to healthy, smooth skin. A team member at Yonick Plastic Surgery can assess your skin in an exam in our office before choosing a chemical peel treatment for best results. Chemical peel candidates, both women and men, should have noticeable concerns on their skin including scaly patches, flaky skin, uneven pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and much more. We may suggest varying strengths of chemical peels to match your needs and concerns.

"Prior to choosing a facility, I researched multiple offices in Midland and Bay City. Yonick Plastic Surgery was the only facility that had a board certified plastic surgeon who owned and operated the business, all while performing many of the procedures himself. Initially I met with Dr. Yonick and his certified nurse practitioner and they both put my mind at ease. I was unsure of where to begin with my journey towards youthful skin, and they were able to provide me with multiple options, but ultimately helped me decide on the best plan based on my budget and expectations. While Dr. Yonick was extremely knowledgeable, Karen Yonick, APRN was the star of the show. Karen was flexible with my schedule, highly intelligent, and very personable. She performed all of the procedures herself and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Karen was very meticulous and took her time with me. I never felt rushed or felt like i was a burden. After my procedures Karen provided me with an inexpensive skin care regimen that takes less than than three minutes to complete. I would only trust my skin with knowledgeable, educated, experts and I found all of that and more at Yonick Plastic Surgery."- S.F. / Google / Nov 11, 2018
"For the middle aged woman that wants to reverse time, doesn’t want to look “fake,” and expects professionalism, finding Yonick Plastic Surgery was like finding a diamond in a sea of rocks. Dr. Yonick and his wife, Karen treated me with professionalism and guidance while always considering cost and long term skin goals. We all want to turn back time without losing the uniqueness of our face. Their lasers and skin care treatment line are helping me achieve that look of mature youth. Often, you will have to travel to a large city to find individuals with their education, credentials, and skills. We are so lucky to have Dr. Yonick and Karen in central Michigan. They are the dynamic duo. My skin looks and feels better than it has in years."- T.J. / Google / Nov 11, 2018

Plan Your Procedure
During your procedure at Yonick Plastic Surgery, we will have you lying down in a relaxed position to administer your peel. We will make sure your skin is cleansed before applying the customized solution to your face, neck, or both. We will spread the solution onto your face and let it set for a specific amount of time, which will be discussed in your treatment planning session. Next, we will wash the solution off your face and apply a neutralizing agent. You should bring a light sunscreen and/or a hat to wear outside after the peel to protect against UV exposure.
What to Expect
Depending on the strength of the peel you receive, you can expect the treated area to itch and peel from a few days to a couple weeks. Dr. Yonick or a member of his team will give instructions on ways to care for your skin during your procedure. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches during the recovery, it is never good to peel the skin off. You could cause scarring to your skin!
