Facial Reconstruction SuRgery
Developing a deformity, especially on the face, is both psychologically and emotionally upsetting. However, when trauma alters the face, facial reconstructive surgery can help correct the damage and restore the natural appearance of the face. Unlike cosmetic surgery, reconstructive surgery alters the appearance of abnormal face structures. At Yonick Plastic Surgery in Midland, MI, Dr. David Yonick performs facial reconstruction surgery for his patients who have experienced trauma or injury to the face. Following the initial treatment to amend the cause of the physical deformities, Dr. Yonick is able to help improve the aesthetics of the face to return it to its normal appearance.

Dr. Yonick uses state-of-the-art and innovative technology to perform facial reconstruction surgery. Patients will need to be put under general anesthesia and the length of the surgery will depend on the extent of the damage. The exact treatment plan will be different for each individual, but Dr. Yonick will evaluate the needs of the patient to administer the best treatment plan possible. He will also discuss with the patient about each element of the procedure prior to treatment.
What to expect
Since facial reconstruction surgery is such a delicate procedure, you will need to spend at least one night in the hospital after your procedure. Dr. Yonick will perform a follow-up exam the day after to determine when you are able to leave and finish your recovery at home. Your healing depends on the complexity of your case, the areas treated, and your incision care at home. Our nurse practitioner will discuss what at-home care will be needed to help for a quick and efficient recovery.
The results of facial reconstruction surgery will vary for each patient. Dr. Yonick strives to make the face appear as natural and normal as possible. His goal is to restore your facial features to what they were like before the trauma. In some cases, a second surgical procedure may need to be performed to help achieve the desired results.
