While a laser treatment session for acne can work on most individuals, it is generally a treatment that is reserved for patients who have really hard to treat acne. In many cases, these individuals have tried oral and topical medications without relief. Some patients may even exhibit skin damage, such as blemishes and light scars (pitting) and discoloration, as a direct result of their acne. Skin that has been plagued with severe acne will often have poor tone, texture, and look uneven. Laser acne treatments can significantly improve the appearance of these issues. In addition, patients with chronic acne may have unbalanced hormones or had really bad outbreaks during pregnancy when hormones levels varied. The Halo Forever Clear BBL system not only targets the acne itself but the skin issues acne left behind. It is often a great solution for patients who are once and for all tired of finding ways to treat their acne without success.
A laser acne treatment session takes place inside our laser room at Yonick Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Center. On the day of your treatment, your skin will be prepped and the session will last about 20 minutes. You will be given protective goggles to wear over your eyes prior to the start of your treatment. With our handheld laser device, we have the ability to target very specific areas of the skin that has been affected by an acne outbreak. In addition, our device allows us to cover a greater surface area and treat multiple issues in the same session. The advanced laser technology of the Halo profractional system delivers heat and light energy to the skin's surface to cause micro-injuries to the skin. Your body will react to this proactively and heal the wounds with healthy new cells that will rejuvenate the skin naturally.
What to Expect
After a laser acne treatment session, the skin will appear red and may also tingle. However, there is very little to no downtime associated with this procedure. For best results, it is not recommended that you wear cosmetics on your skin for at least 24 hours. Since the Halo laser system emits a dual blend of both ablative and nonablative wavelengths, most patients only need 1 – 2 treatments compared to 3 – 5 sessions with other fractional resurfacing lasers. We will assess your skin a week or two after each treatment to see how your acne is reacting to the treatment and adjust your treatment plan accordingly. Most patients see outstanding results with improved skin texture and tone and their acne finally under control.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
The cost of your laser acne treatment will depend on the condition of your skin, the severity of your acne breakouts, and how many treatment sessions are needed. If scarring is also an issue, another type of laser treatment may also be used, which may affect the cost. We will discuss pricing in detail during your initial consultation.
The Sciton Halo laser system is unique because it is one of the only profractional lasers on the market, which delivers both fractional (ablative) and non-fraction (nonablative) wavelengths to the treatment area. This means it offers a powerful punch in treating severe skin conditions but with less downtime and treatments compared to traditional lasers. Halo is also great for those with mild to severe acne or dermal concerns.
Why multiple sessions?
Every case is different, which is why we create a customized treatment plan for every patient. The number of treatments performed will depend on your condition and cosmetic goals. Some patients may only require one treatment to attain the outcome they want while others may need more.
What about the aftercare?
Our Midland, MI plastic surgery office will provide you with detailed instructions to follow after your laser acne treatment session to enable optimal healing.
