What a MicroLaser Peel Treats
A MicroLaser Peel is considered an effective skin rejuvenation treatment and is safe to use on most skin types. During your private consultation, we will provide a thorough skin assessment to identify your aesthetic concerns and provide a comprehensive treatment plan. A MicroLaser Peel can treat:
- Mild wrinkles
- Mild scars
- Sun damage (freckles)
- Rough skin texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Pigment irregularities
About the Technology
The Sciton MicroLaser Peel was designed for patients wanting more than a light chemical peel or microdermabrasion treatment, but who also do not want a prolonged recovery. Unlike a microdermabrasion treatment, which targets the skin at 10 microns deep, the MicroLaser Peel is performed with topical anesthetic, at 20-50 microns deep. Because this unique peel ablates deeper into the epidermis, it a great treatment for patients that desire to fall between a microdermabrasion treatment and full skin resurfacing.
During your MicroLaser Peel, the skin will be cleaned and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The laser handpiece will be positioned above the skin to treat the target area. As the handpiece is held into place, the computer-guided scanner works to moves the laser beam around the treatment area. The treatment generally takes between 15 - 30 minutes, depending on what is being treated and the size of the treatment area. One of the advantages of the MicroLaser Peel is that it causes little discomfort because it does not penetrate deep into the skin. At its most shallow settings, most patients can tolerate treatment with mild discomfort and no anesthetic at all. At deeper settings, we will apply a topical numbing cream.
Following your treatment, the skin will have a “frosty” appearance. This represents the dehydrated skin that will peel away within a few days. Most patients will experience some redness and a mild sunburn sensation, in addition to minor swelling. However, depending on the nature of the treatment and overall depth, most patients feel comfortable to return to work or normal activities within 3 - 4 days. Because of this turnaround, many of our Midland, MI patients like to refer to the MicroLaser Peel as the "weekend peel." Patients will see a marked improvement in skin tone, texture, and color.
